Asbury Park 5k Race Recap

Saturday morning I ran in my first race since my half marathon, and my first since the knee injury. Although I’m nowhere back to recovered or back to my mileage and speed, I wanted to run a race this summer and because this one was near my shore house and a few of my house mates and summer race fellow runners were doing it, I really wanted to join them. It was a beautiful day for a race with over 1000 runners!
So plan A was to run a mile, then walk the rest. Plan B (morning of the race) was to run 1, walk 1, run 1. Of course I ended up with Plan C. Run 1, walk .5, run the rest. So by jogging (and making sure I didn’t go too fast) 2.5 of the 3, I ended up finishing at 35:53. My slowest race to date, but I was actually thrilled to have run the majority of it. It was a double loop and at one point I thought there was a special course for fast runners. Then I realized they were already lapping me and making their way to the boardwalk finish. By the way, my finishline photo is of me checking my Garmin. Figures.

After the race, I grabbed my free juice, yogurt and banana, (got stuck w/ my friends talking to a crazy runner I’m convinced was on drugs) and headed back to the house to ice it up.

I was a bit sore after, all down my right side from hip to knee but today I’m not feeling too shabby. Maybe this means I can slowly start working on adding back mileage.

    That’s great! I would love to be able to run the majority of a 5K right now, but my knee isn’t having it. 😦
